Margaret Beckett, the foreign secretary, has written about the environmental advantages of going caravanning, reports the Sunday Telegraph.
The cabinet minister is a known fan of the pastime and has written an introduction to Teach Yourself Caravanning, which will be released this summer.
In it she writes about the environmental positives associated with caravanning compared to other ways of taking a holiday.
According to the paper, she writes: “When it comes to the environment, the caravan is a relatively environmentally friendly way to take your holiday; it gives off only a fraction of the greenhouse gas emissions compared to travelling by air.”
“Not only is it highly enjoyable, it is a lifestyle choice. Travelling in this way allows real spontaneity. You can decide at the last minute to go on a break without having to worry about plane or train tickets or a hotel.”
Other celebrities mentioned by Ms Beckett as caravan fans include celebrity chef Jamie Oliver and pop superstar Madonna.
