Lane closures along a section of the coastbound M20 come into effect today, the Highways Agency has announced.
Segments between junctions 11 and 12 on the Kent motorway will be affected while safety work is carried out.
Caravanners heading for the Dover port area will be affected by the road works, with a 50 mph speed limit set to be imposed to protect the workforce.
In a statement the Highways Agency said: “The work, which starts today, will benncompleted by Wednesday March 28th and work will be carried out during both the day and night. At least two lanes will be kept open to traffic at all times.
“At peak times one lane will be closed. Off-peak two lanes will be closed and traffic will use the hard shoulder and the remaining lane.”
Traffic will have to use the hard shoulder from Monday to Saturday at 09:30 to 16:00 and on Sundays from 09:30 to 14:00.
In addition, on Monday to Thursday the hard shoulder will be in use from 19:30 to 05:00, on Fridays from 20:30 to 06:00, Saturdays from 19:30 to 10:00 and Sundays from 19:50 to 05:00.
