Caravan park given unique award

After 52 years serving holidaymakers, the Shoulthwaite Farm Caravan Park has been handed a special award by the Caravan Club for its hospitality.

According to the Cumberland News, the caravan park, which is located near Keswick, has received thousands of visitors from all over the world since 1950 and has now had its achievement officially recognised.

The Caravan Club created a unique award for the Harrison family, who have run the caravan park all that time and are popular with regular visitors. Workington MP Tony Cunningham presented the award to Jim and Ruth Harrison, who took over the running of the farm from Jim’s parents Bob and Evelyn.

Despite only having five caravan pitches for touring caravans or motorhomes, the caravan park is the longest-serving Caravan Club Certified Location in the UK.

Over the years, the Harrison family has added modernisations to the caravan park, without spoiling its character.

A Caravan Club spokesman said that while its location in the Lake District made it popular, the warm hospitality provided by the family was what kept customers coming back. Last year the park recorded more than 750 visitor nights and Shoulthwaite Farm is already taking bookings for next year.
