One of the best campsites, vehicle maintenance checks, 5 stars for Elddis Avante 868 and other caravan news

2021 has been a bumper year for caravans and caravanning – and it’s not yet over. Recent news headlines continue to identify outstanding campsites while owners are also encouraged to carry out simple maintenance checks on vehicles used to tow their caravans.

Other caravan news announces the welcome, post-pandemic return of the Scottish Caravan, Motorhome & Holiday Home Show. And the all-new Elddis Avante 868 earns a five-star rating from the Caravan and Motorhome Club.

Here is a brief round-up.

North Wales campsite named one of UK’s best

Want to know where is the best caravan campsite in the UK? North Wales Live in a story on the 14th of November offered an answer.

A campsite in North Wales – Riverside Camping in Pontrug, near Caernarfon – has walked away with one of the top prizes in the AA’s annual Caravan and Camping Awards and was also voted the most improved site in the UK.

The competition was especially stiff this year, but the judges homed in on Riverside Camping’s “superb location”, on the banks of the River Seiont, which it also praised as being “immaculately maintained”. Thanks to its location between Gwynedd’s county town of Caernarfon and the Snowdonia National Park there are ample opportunities for walking and in and around the area.

Drivers urged to carry out simple vehicle maintenance checks

As all motorists begin to prepare for the coming winter months, the AA encourages everyone to carry out simple and straightforward maintenance tasks for the safety of themselves and other road users, explains an article in Practical Caravan magazine on the 9th of November:

  • lights in good working order are especially important during autumn’s darker mornings and evenings when the sun is lower on the horizon and visibility more of a problem;
  • with an ever-increasing risk of freezing conditions, drivers are urged to make sure screen washers remain usable and wiper blades are free of tears, nicks, and wear;
  • road-handling is also likely to become more of an issue during the autumn and winter months, so, it is imperative that tyres are kept in tip-top condition and remain inflated to the correct pressure. Also, make sure you check the age of your tyres (our blog explains more).

By attending to simple and straightforward maintenance routines such as these, you might help to avoid a more expensive callout to the breakdown services.

The Scottish Caravan, Motorhome & Holiday Home Show to return in 2022

After the hiatus caused by Covid-19 restrictions, the Scottish Caravan, Motorhome & Holiday Home Show makes a welcome return, reported the Caravan Times on the 4th of November.

Held over four days from the 3rd to the 6th of February 2022, the show is staged at the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow – recently the venue for the multinational COP26 climate summit.

Supported by the Caravan and Motorhome Club and the Camping and Caravanning Club, centre stage at the stage will be more than two hundred makes and models of caravans and motorhomes for 2022.

Elddis Avante 868 awarded full 5 Star rating

The Erwin Hymer Group’s new Elddis Avante 868 6-berth caravan has won a maximum 5-star rating in the Caravan and Motorhome Club Caravan Design Awards Buyers Guide for 2022, reported the company on the 26th of October.

Indeed, the manufacturer won 8 5-star ratings and 7 4-5-star ratings among the twenty-two models it submitted to the judges for this year’s assessment.

A feature that caught the judges’ eye was the bedroom compartment at the rear of the caravan adjacent to a bathroom that could be sectioned off to provide a completely private ensuite facility.
