Latest caravan news from across the UK

Whether you’re planning your next trip or already enjoying life on site, it’s been a busy few weeks in the caravanning world. Here are some of the latest UK caravanning news stories.

Well-known Welsh caravan site introduces adults-only policy

A long-established and popular caravan site in the Brecon Beacons National Park has made its views on the Welsh Government’s proposed visitor levy clear.

In a story on the 8th of June, Wales Online revealed that Dan Yr Ogof caravan site in the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) has become an adults-only park because it draws the line at charging children – even those as young as babies – the visitor levy of £1.30 (plus VAT) a night per head.

The Welsh government has approved plans to charge a tax on every visitor – whether they are staying in a hotel, bed and breakfast, self-catering accommodation, or a caravan or campervan. However, Powys County Council, which is responsible for Dan Yr Ogof, must still decide whether or not to enforce the tax.

Swift shares five unforgettable UK road trips

Fancy an unforgettable road trip in your motorhome this summer? The leisure vehicle manufacturer Swift recently described the following five trips that will linger long in your memory:

North Coast 500

  • many say it’s Scotland’s answer to Route 66, a 516-mile loop that starts and finishes in Inverness;
  • it encompasses all the classic highland scenes of mountain glens and passes, historic castles, and glorious beaches;

Jurassic Coast

  • this is a 95-mile stretch of the Devon and Dorset coast where ancient fossils lie hidden in dramatic cliffs that shelter peaceful coves;
  • the Jurassic Coast is England’s only designated World Heritage Site;

The Cornish coast

  • it’s practically inevitable that Cornwall’s 400-mile coastline should be included in the top five road trips;
  • ever popular for good reason, Cornwall offers natural beauty, a rich maritime heritage, and encounters with a wide variety of wildlife;

Yorkshire coast and North York Moors

  • this is where the wild open spaces of rugged moors come down to the sea;
  • taste the freedom of the windswept moors before dropping down to quaint seaside towns and harbours;

The Cotswolds

  • the Cotswolds spread over several quintessentially English counties and host the types of village cottages you’ll see gracing many a chocolate box cover;
  • located in the heart of England, the Cotswolds are especially accessible from practically anywhere in England.

Overnight parking ban suspended after increase in anti-social behaviour

The Eryri National Park Authority has taken the seemingly counter-intuitive step of suspending a ban on overnight parking in nine of Snowdon’s car parks to combat anti-social behaviour elsewhere in the area, according to the BBC recently.

The ban was initially introduced because the overnight use of the car parks encouraged anti-social behaviour. But the move seems only to have forced the worst of the behaviour to move into surrounding towns and villages. So, the ban itself has again been suspended in an attempt to relieve the surrounding residential areas of the problem.
