Lady Margaret’s CAMC Park, Chirk Update

Site review updated January 2023

Introduction

Lady Margaret’s Park is a much loved, open all year club site on the outskirts of Chirk in North Wales. As a result, the site was starting to show its age and was in need of refurbishment. During 2022 the site was closed in order to enable the site to undergo a total overhaul.

Access to the site remains the same, please see arrival video HERE. Please see HERE for the original review which includes the “Out & About” section.

The following review details the outcome of the refurbishment during a long weekend visit in mid January 2023.

Site entrance- this has seen major changes with the removal of the sleeping policeman on the entry road. As you will see from the photographs the new barrier system has been moved to the site entrance. The reception building has been revamped with new facilities for the warden and their staff relocated to the entrance.

Information room – this has been moved and a new cabin has been provided. New pathways have been put in place which makes access to all areas much easier.

Toilet and facilities block – here the building has been totally rebuilt and extended. This was one of the main areas which had required work prior to the refurbishment.

In its place is a large, multifunctional building. I will list the facilities which it now has, photographs will show these changes.

  • Family bathroom including a ¾ bath and walk in shower.
  • Male and female toilet/shower block
  • Fully accessible toilet and shower room for people with disabilities.
  • Fully accessible toilet only, separate from the above, for use when cleaning is taking place. A radar key is required for both of these.
  • An indoor dishwashing area, regular visitors will remember the open air dishwashing area which previously existed.
  • A laundry room with washing machines and dryers, token system in operation.

Outside the building are the usual drinking water and grey water disposable points. In addition there is now a cycle service point and also an area where you can clean your bike, boots and indeed your four legged friend!

There is also an elsan disposal point.

The site now benefits from a playground area in the middle of the site with a few table and benches to one side allowing people to be close by when their children are using the playground.

Sandwiched between the new facilities block and the playground area, a new car park has been built. This also includes an electric car charging point. I was unable to ascertain the cost of charging your car.

Pitches

The two existing dells, however, are more focused on motor homes as primrose dell is now almost totally non awning pitches.

The refurbishment has seen the introduction of a number of service pitches with water and grey water disposal points. In addition they have also introduced a few premium pitches on the site. These pitches, with hedges bordering, are slightly larger pitches and a picnic bench and brick built barbecue spot.

The site has also increased the number of hard standing pitches as they have removed a number of the grass only pitches.

A number of the pitches, particularly in the open air area and which have become serviced have had their hardstanding updated. As a result drainage has improved considerably in these areas.

Overall the site is much more open as a scheme of removing some of the trees has taken place.  This has greatly enhanced the site overall.  The landscaping will take some time to settle in, as expected.

IT and mobile coverage – new masts have been installed and a good strength signal was available.   The site was very quiet during the visit, so that may change if the site is busier.  A very strong 5G signal from EE was available throughout the site.  Other providers were not tested on this visit.

The dog walk remains on site with a smaller area to the rear of reception.

Summary

Lady Margaret’s Park is a popular site year round. The renovations and rebuilding have only served to increase its appeal.

The quality of the renovations is very high and care has been taken to include as much eco friendly additions as possible. For example solar panels have been fitted to the facilities block roof.

The addition of service pitches is most welcome, particularly in the winter! Personally I am unsure as to whether the additional cost to upgrade to a premium pitch is all that necessary. Perhaps in the summer and warmer weather, they may be a more attractive option.

I would certainly recommend the site and it’s new facilities have only served to increase its appeal as a year round site.
