Travel safe with your dog, new resort for County Durham, Morelo motorhomes, Le Shuttle, and plans for a Lincoln holiday park’s expansion

A repeat of last summer’s hot and sunny weather already seems to be on the cards once again. It’s a call to every owner of a caravan or motorhome to book a place in the sun and relax in your holiday home from home.

Whether you’ve yet to make the first break away or are already enjoying the welcome freedom of the great British outdoors, here are a few news stories that offer a little additional perspective.

Reminder issued for safe travelling with your dog

One of the most appealing freedoms in camping and caravanning here in Britain is that the family’s best friend can along too.

In celebration of that fact, the Caravan Times on the 1st of June carried a timely reminder about travelling safely when you take along the family dog.

In particular, the article stresses the importance of making sure your pet is secure in your car or motorhome – whether you use specialist dog seatbelts, a harness, a carrier, or a barrier behind the back seat of your car.

If you are driving without the dog being properly and safely secured, you risk fines of up to £5,000 warns the Caravan Times.

Proposal to create new County Durham chalet and caravan site

Plans have been submitted to Durham County Council for the creation of a major new holiday park near West Auckland, according to the Northern Echo recently.

The planning application incorporates 80 pitches for touring caravans, 119 holiday chalets, and headquarters for the site including a shop, café, and reception facilities. In addition, the developers propose the planting of four new areas of woodland, concentrated along the site’s northern boundary.

Morelo expands manufacturing capacity

Luxury motorhome manufacturer Morelo has announced plans to build a major new production factory in central Germany, said a story in Out and About Live on the 7th of June.

New, cutting-edge manufacturing facilities are required simply to keep up with the unprecedented demand for the top of the range motorhomes whose entry-level vehicles still cost more than £163,000 (€191,000).

The new plant is under construction at Schlüsselfeld in the administrative region of Upper Franconia in Bavaria.

Eurotunnel rebrands as LeShuttle

As it approaches its 30th birthday, a facelift and rebranding reshapes one of the principal connections between Britain and its closest neighbour – in future, the Channel Tunnel will be known as LeShuttle, reported Travel Weekly last month.

The emphasis is on the ease and efficiency of taking the train swiftly and sustainably from one point to another – following in the slipstream of the estimated 61 million cars that have been transported under the English Channel since the tunnel opened in 1994.

The current marketing campaign highlights a particular attraction in using LeShuttle – the practicality of travelling with your pets. Some 360,000 pets made the journey in 2022 alone, according to Out and About Live on the 5th of June.

Plans to extend Lincolnshire holiday park with 43 more caravans and children’s play area

A major holiday park on the east coast of Lincolnshire at Chapel St Leonards hopes to expand the accommodation and facilities on offer if its plans are approved by East Lindsey District Council.

A report by Lincolnshire Live on the 26th of May outlined the owners’ bid to increase the 755 holiday units already in existence with a further 43 static caravans and five lodges, together with the creation of a new play area for children.

The owners, Blue Anchor Leisure Ltd, support their planning application by referring to the increased demand for caravan holidays in the staycation boom that came in the wake of the Covid pandemic.
